Nicole Azzopardi is a young talented Maltese artist that has already obtained an impressive record in the local music scene as well as a vast international exposure including the Zecchino D'Oro and the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. She is also one of the main cast of the popular TV Musical 'D.R.E.A.M.S.'
In 2011, she was invited to take part in the music festival 'Tähtede Laul' in Tallinn, Estonia. The next grand event will take Nicole to Yerevan in Armenia this October to represent Malta in the international song contest "Yerevan Is Calling".
Tenor Joseph Calleja, Michael Bolton, Dionne Warwick and Maestro Riccardo Cocciante are only a few of the international artists with whom Nicole had the opportunity to sing.
Nicole Azzopardi comes from the Mediterranean archipelago of Malta. She started taking singing lessons at a very early age. She participated and won several local children's festivals. At the age of seven she represented Malta for the first time at 'Verdi Note International Singers Festival' held in Italy. There she secured the second place. A year later she jetted off to the 'Ti Amo' festival held in Romania and then to the 'Tralcio D'Oro' festival in Bari, Italy, where she placed first in both festivals.
One of the experiences that remains deeply vivid in her memory is when she represented Malta in Italy's popular international children's contest 'Zecchino D'Oro'. Within this showcase, she performed 'La Dottoressa Lulu'. Whilst in Italy, Nicole had the opportunity to record with Sony Music.
Her local success includes an outstanding record at the popular festival 'Fl-Ghaqda l-Melodija' where she placed among the top winning songs for three consecutive years and was honoured as the overall festival winner (Children, Adolescents and Adults categories) together with Best Presentation and Choreography. Other local successes include best interpretation and third place during the prestigious Maltese festival 'L-Ghanja tal-Poplu', as well as best overall interpretation and first place in the popular festival 'L-Ghanja Tal-Maltin'. Nicole took part in the national final of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest for four consecutive years. 'Knock Knock! .... Boom! Boom!' won Nicole the ticket to the final of the 2010 Junior Eurovision Song Contest which was held in Minsk, Belarus.
In 2011, Nicole was invited to take part in one of the leading international children and youth music festivals 'Tähtede Laul' which was held in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. There she launched two brand new upbeat songs called 'My Heart Beats For Love' and 'Simply Hi'. 2011 was an important year for Estonia as Tallinn was declared Europe's Capital of Culture. 'Tähtede Laul' 2011 formed part of the festivities that were organized under the auspices of the Estonian Ministry of Culture and Meero Muusik to celebrate the event of the European Capital of Culture.
Nicole is an active member of the 'St Monica Choir', Malta's leading polyphonic choir, respected by international connoisseurs for the quality, standards and discipline with which it executes its productions. In addition, she has performed as a senior choir member in the popular local rock opera 'Gensna'. She was later selected as one of the choir members that sang during the visit to Malta of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI. She has also formed part of the main choir that accompanied the internationally known Tenor Joseph Calleja and international artist Michael Bolton. More recently, she took part in another concert as a senior choir member again supporting the Tenor Joseph Calleja, the five-time Grammy Award winner Dionne Warwick and Maestro Riccardo Cocciante.
Nicole is now one of the main cast that take part in the very popular youth TV musical serial called 'Dreams' which is broadcast on the Maltese national TV channel. Nicole has obtained a distinction in pianoforte practice. She has been awarded a qualification at Grade four in both theory and practice by the Trinity College of London.
Nicole Azzopardi returns triumphant with two trophies from Armenia
Nicole Azzopardi the former Junior Eurovision Contestant, proudly returns to Malta today with two trophies and three diplomas from Yerevan Is Calling, an international music festival which was held in Armenia between 6 and 14 October.
Nicole has won the prestigious title of the Best Armenian Song Performance awarded by the Festival Director Nadezhda Sargsyan and the First Runner Up of the Best Armenian Song awarded by the Mayor of the City of Yerevan Mr Taron Margaryan on the advice of a separate jury panel which included the international French artist of Armenian descent Rosy Armen. Nicole was also awarded three festival diplomas.
The Grand Prix winner is none other than Hila ben David, a finalist in the Israeli Eurovision Song Contest and winner of several prominent festivals including Pesni Sredizemnomorya held in Athens and Utah Talent Show held in the USA.
The purpose of the festival is to promote Armenian culture and to develop cultural relations with artists coming from different countries. Eighteen artists from seventeen nations took part in this first edition of the festival Yerevan Is Calling marking the 2794th Anniversary of Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. Among the artists one comes across Evelina Sašenko, the Lithuanian representative and second runner up at the Eurovision Song Contest final in 2011 in Dusseldorf, Karolina Szczepanik former X-Factor finalist in Poland and Alisher Karimov from Kazakhstan, Gold winner at the Hollywood World Championship of Performing Arts.
The festival was held under the auspices of the Armenian Ministry of Culture, Yerevan City Hall together with “EMI-BI” Production Center, the production house of Emma Bejanyan, more known as Emmy, the Armenian representative at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest.
Nicole is expected to fly in today at 12:25pm with an Airmalta flight from Rome.

Nicole Azzopardi to participate in an international song contest in Armenia
Nicole Azzopardi, the former Junior Eurovision Maltese Contestant, will be jetting off to Yerevan the capital of Armenia to represent Malta in the international four day festival called "Yerevan Is Calling". The international contest will take place between 6 and 14 October 2012. Eighteen artists from seventeen countries will be competing in this first edition of the festival. Among the artists one comes across Evelina Sašenko, the Lithuanian representative at the Eurovision Song Contest final in Dusseldorf in 2011 and Alisher Karimov from Kazakhstan, Gold winner at the Hollywood World Championship of Performing Arts.
The contest will be split between three different competitions and spread over four evenings. During the first evening, the contestants will perform a song from their country of origin. The second evening is dedicated to international music. In the third evening, all participants are required to perform a song written and composed by Armenian artists. A Gala Concert including a ceremony to award the festival winners will take place on the last night of the event.
Nicole has been busy practicing three songs especially the Armenian song "Im Anune Hayastane", which means "My Name Is Armenia". The song which is in the Armenian language, speaks about the history of the Republic of Armenia. Her Vocal coach Glen Vella and the Chairperson of the Armenian Community of Malta Vera Boyajyan are helping Nicole prepare for the event.
The purpose of the festival is to promote Armenian culture and to develop cultural relations with artists coming from different countries. During their stay in Armenia the contestants will be able to visit several places of cultural interest and historical value including the Apostolic See of Echmiadzin Cathedral, which is the spiritual and administrative head-quarters of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Vagharshapat and Garni-Geghard, a temple that is partially carved out of the mountains.
"Yerevan Is Calling" is being organised by the Yerevan City Hall together with "EMI-BI" Production Center with the assistance of the RA Ministry of Culture. "EMI-BI" is the production house of Emma Bejanyan, more known as Emmy, the Armenian representative at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest.
The show will be broadcast live on the Armenian National TV as well as other foreign television channels.
